The Full Moon in Sagittarius Wants You to Stop Hedging

The most restless moon of the year just arrived. Here’s what to do with all that energy.

Here’s the thing about a Sagittarius full moon. It’s not subtle.

Every full moon brings things to the surface — feelings you’ve been quietly filing away, patterns you’ve been pretending not to notice, that thing you said you’d deal with later. But Sagittarius doesn’t do quiet. It doesn’t do later. Sagittarius is the sign of expansion, truth-telling, and absolute refusal to play small — and under its full moon, all of that turns into a kind of pressure.

The good news: if you work with it, this moon is genuinely one of the most clarifying of the year.

The less good news: it requires honesty. Like, actual honesty.

What this moon actually wants

Lavender incence

Sagittarius is fire. Mutable fire, which means it adapts and shifts — but it is still fire. It rules philosophy, long-distance travel, belief systems, and the part of you that asks but is this actually true?

The full moon in Sagittarius is a completion point in that story. Something that started around the Sagittarius new moon last December is wrapping up. You might not know exactly what that is until it happens — that’s kind of the point. Full moons are revelations, not plans.

What you’ll likely feel: restlessness. A pull toward honesty that’s inconvenient. The sudden clarity that something you’ve been tolerating is not actually working. Maybe a desire to go somewhere, do something, decide something.

That last one is important. Sagittarius energy makes you want to commit. If you’ve been sitting on a decision, this moon will make the fence feel deeply uncomfortable.

What to release

Every full moon is an invitation to release something. Under Sagittarius, the obvious candidates are:

Beliefs that you’ve outgrown. Not just limiting beliefs in the abstract self-help sense — actual specific ideas about yourself, your life, what’s possible. The ones you picked up somewhere years ago and never questioned. This moon shines a light on exactly those.

The version of yourself you perform for other people. Sagittarius is brutally unconcerned with what other people think. It’s the most I’m going to say the true thing sign in the zodiac. Use that energy to release the performance a little. Not permanently if that feels like too much — just for tonight.

Stagnation you’ve been calling caution. There’s a difference between being careful and being stuck. Sagittarius knows this. You know this. This is the moon to admit it.

How I’m working with this energy

My approach to full moons is not ceremonial. I don’t have a dedicated ritual space or a specific script. What I do is carve out about 30–40 minutes and give myself permission to actually think.

For this full moon specifically: I’m pulling my journal out and asking myself the questions I’ve been quietly avoiding. Sagittarius rules truth — so the thing I most don’t want to look at is probably the thing most worth looking at.

I’m also cleansing my crystals tonight. Not because I think the moon is literally charging them with power, but because the ritual of it slows me down and puts me in a different headspace. Amethyst for clarity. Labradorite because it’s Sagittarius’s stone and I’m not going to argue with that.

If there’s smoke cleansing, it’ll be with mugwort. For Sagittarius energy specifically — vision, expansion, truth. It fits.

The journal prompts I’m actually using

Not the “write about your gratitude” variety. These are the sharper ones:

  1. What truth am I circling around that I haven’t said out loud yet — to myself or anyone else?
  2. What have I been calling “being realistic” that might actually just be fear?
  3. Where in my life have I stopped expanding? When did that happen?
  4. What would I do if the fear of looking stupid wasn’t a factor?
  5. What belief about myself is most ready to be retired?
  6. What does my most expanded, most honest self look like? What’s one concrete thing she does that I’m not doing?
  7. What am I ready to commit to — even if it’s inconvenient?

That last one will tell you a lot.

A note if this moon feels like too much

Sagittarius full moons can be overwhelming. The energy is loud and expansive and sometimes it just feels like a lot — like everything needs to change and also nothing is making sense and you need to quit your job and move to the mountains or something.

If that’s where you are: you don’t have to act on any of it tonight.

Full moon energy is for releasing and illuminating, not necessarily for deciding. Let the moon show you what it wants to show you. Write it down. Sit with it. The decisions can come later when the energy has settled.

The revelation is enough. You don’t have to do anything with it immediately.

Next full moon: Capricorn, July. Until then — let this one show you something. 🖤
